What Causes Swollen Legs And Exhaustion While Suffering From High BP And Enlarged Heart?

at the present time I was told that an xray showed that I have an enlarged heart, my blood presuure was really high and I was put on: Amlodipine 5mg, Furosemide 40 mg., carvedilol 25 mg 2X a day, Valsartan 320 mg, Potassium Chloride 10 extended release tablet, and I feel worse than ever, I have developed swelling in the legs, ankles, and feet, and am extremely exhausted yet cannot sleep much at night, I don t know why. I have a terrible itchy rash on my face. Is there an alternative to all of these meds without so many side effects

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Dr. Hanif warmly Welcomes you!

Thanks for consulting at my virtual clinic. I have carefully worked through your case, and I can realize your health worries. Being your physician, I assure you not to worry as I will take care all of your medical concerns.

Amlodipine besylate has the side effect of leg, ankle and feet swelling. You may consult your physician for replacing the same with HCTZ if no other restrictions regarding whole scenario you have.

You have enlargement of heart. When it happens, heart can't so efficiently pump the blood fully and power of heart is also lower than before to pump. So, blood pools up in dependant parts of the body as you have.

Your doctor may alter the dose of Furosemide too. It will increase urine output and decrease swelling.

Consult a Cardiologist for proper evaluation and treatment for hypertrophy (enlargement)of your heart. It is highly recommended.

Hope it helps. If you need further, detailed and quick assistance related to any health issues in future, feel free to 'ask me a question' directly from my profile.

Have a wonderful time ahead.

Best Regards!
