What Causes Swelling In The Hands, Legs And Face?

I am a 26yr old female, and lately I have been experiencing swelling of my entire body. More noticeably my hands, feet, ankles and face. I have been getting lower back epidural steroid injections, for pain from degenerative disc over the past 3 years. Could the injections or medications I am taking be the cause of my swelling and discomfort from it?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Taking injections might not be the reason for your symptoms.

It might be associated with loss of protein in urine or could be due to dysfunction of the thyroid gland.

Kindly get your urine tested for albumin levels. Also, get your blood tested for kidney profile (urea, BUN, creatinine), total proteins, albumin, albumin/globulin (A/G) ratio and thyroid profile.

Kindly consult Physician with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ashakiran S,
