Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My b/p this am is 117/67......pulse 67. This med messes up my sleep and also gives me leg cramps. Seems like I should not take it anymore. I normally have low pressure but last week it spiked way up to 180/101...pulse 98. However, my husband had just been diagnosed with a terminal illness so I feel that high reading was stress related.
So to answer your question: Stress can be the cause of your high blood pressure spike and your normal-high heart rate. Increases in blood pressure related to stress can be dramatic.
But once the stressor disappears, your blood pressure returns to normal. You mention that you take medication for high blood pressure that causes side effects(leg cramps) and you normally have low blood pressure.
In these circumstances, I suggest consulting your treating doctor because you may need to know if you have hypertension and if it is necessary to stop, decrease the dosage of your actual medication or even change the therapy, in order to have normal and constant blood pressure values.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
