What Causes Sudden Pain On He Left Side With Nausea?

Last night, my husband was awakened by a severe shooting pain that went up the left side of his neck and down his right arm. He got up and went to the bathroom and upon returning became very nauseus. He has a strong family history of heart disease and has experienced chest pains before. However, they were diagnosed as muscular related. Today he hasn t felt right . He feels mild aches and pains today. Should we wait for Monday and see his normal doctor, or is this something we should address tonight? Thank you for your help.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

If the pain is triggered by arm and neck movements, it would indicate a possible musculoskeletal pain. In such a case, there is no need to go to the ER and ibuprofen coupled with some rest can help improve his situation.

If the pain is not triggered by neck and arm movements, I would recommend going to the ER for a physical exam, a resting ECG and cardiac enzymes.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
