What Causes Sudden Elevation In Heart Rate And Jaw Pain?

2 weeks ago I had a sudden incident of a racing heart. It was beating so fast that I nearly passed out. It lasted about 5 minutes and went back to normal. Since then I have had discomfort in my chest, swollen glands below my ears, aching jaw, and now my blood pressure is odd. 140/79 pulse 91. Is this something I should consider an emergency or should I change my lifestyle? I try to eat healthy, I have a very physical job, and I keep the stress in my life quite low

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have symptoms of sudden elevation in heart rate and jaw pain . The symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like temporomandibular joint problem, it could be due to clenching of jaws or grinding of teeth and stress is one of the major factor for your condition or symptoms can also occur due to condition like angina . I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get it examined properly. If it is related to joint, then mouth exercises such as TENS physical therapy is very effective. Take muscle relaxants for this. Consult cardiologist also to rule out serious heart condition . Doctor may order ECG , TMT along with complete blood profile and troponin t test to confirm the diagnosis .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
