Hi
Bradycardia could be caused by a number of medical conditions some of which are:
-Heart tissue damage
-heart tissue infections
-heart problems present at birth
-High blood pressure
-complication of heart surgery
-hypothyroidism
-Ionic imbalance(ions necessary for heat impuls conduction)
-Systemic inflammatory diseases
-Some medications.
With all these causes, only a keen evaluation by a Doctor with some work-ups like ECG, ionogram, FBC, thyroid function test, and an infectious work-up may help to bring out the exact cause.
The treatment of this conditions however depends on the underlying cause.
Heart rate as low as 50 can be found in athletes but out of this, it is good to look for the cause. If she was asked to go home, it means the problem has been corrected. The following may help prevent recurrence:
-exercise and eat a healthy diet
-maintain a healthy weight
-keep blood pressure and
cholesterol under control
-Avoid
smoking and drink alcohol moderately if need be
-Avoid stress
After all these, if the problem repeats, you
consult a Cardiologist for better evaluation and management.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
