The possible reason for her symptoms during the period is the excess release of prostaglandins. Prostaglandin release occurs just before and during the onset of the menstrual cycle and is the reason for the pain and sometimes systemic upset that ensues. Mefenamic acid and an anti-spasmodic usually are used to control such pain while an anti-emetic is used to control the nausea and vomiting.
