What Causes Stiff Painful Neck And Shoulders?

I woke up 2 weeks ago with a stiff neck and I could not move my neck for about 3 days without wanting to cry. I have been rotating my neck daily to get it to move but every night I wake up with extreme pain in my neck and shoulders. I am extremely active and I am an athlete but I have never experienced pain like this. Can you please tell me what you think may be going on.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read carefully your query and understand your concern.

The symptoms seem to be related to muscle strain in the neck.

I suggest using a muscle relaxant such as Baclofen three times a day.

I also suggest using Voltaren gel for local application

Hope my answer was helpful.

If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

Kind regards!
