Hello and I hope I can help you today.

Spotting in pregnancy can happen for a variety of reasons. There is so much blood flowing through your uterus and cervix that it is easy for small amounts of bleeding to start. Sex, or standing for a long period of time, are examples of events that can trigger spotting. You did the right thing by getting a pelvic exam and a sonogram and as long as these are OK and the bleeding slows down it is not concerning.

If you see any bright red blood, or have crampy abdominal or back pain, or leakage of any watery fluid from the vagina, you should go back to the hospital for re-evaluation

I hope I have adequately answered your question and that my advice was helpful. Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy, Dr. Brown
