What Causes Soreness/red Raised Area In The Back Of Throat?

I had a sore throat recently that went away but then I got a white spot that turned into a red raised area in the back of my throat. I ve had hoarseness, a sensation of something stuck in my throat, and a feeling like I have to take a deep breath just to get enough air. I talked to my ob/gyn s nurse who said that if it was hpv in my mouth it would hurt, so she didn t think it was that. I went to an ent and all he said was that I didn t have a tumor. What kind of test would I need to know for sure if it s hpv from oral sex? How likely is that, and what is the outlook for someone who might have it?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Sore throat that went away, but development of white spot that turned into red raised area in throat is a condition called as hypertrophied pharyngitis.
This means that the area that is raised has developed a patch of edema.
This can be secondary to bacterial infection.
Allergic reaction to certain food or fluid and preservatives in these.
Trying to remove the phlegm forcefully as one can have a feeling that there is phlegm and thus due to sucking effect the area goes into edema.
Nothing much to worry unless it is causing symptoms or complications.
A course of an antibiotic and anti-inflammatory medicines would solve your problems.
Povidone iodine gargle.
Plenty of warm fluids and water.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
