What Causes Sore Neck Along With Difficulty In Swallowing?
woke up with a sore neck, very sore on Christmas Eve....since then it has gotten worse. Not able to put head back or front - better from side to side. The strangest thing is it severly hurts when I swallow, just swallow, when I swallow drinks or food it hurts too. Hurts in the t op of my neck inside next to the skull, feels like all muscles and bones used to swallow are in pain when I swallow. head feels rather heavy for my neck.Hurts to talk loud or even talk when my h ead is at a certain angle. Never felt this before. It is not going away only getting worse.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have sore neck along with difficulty in swallowing . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like muscle spasm , gastroesophageal reflux disease , foreign bodies , esophageal ring , tonsillitis or esophagitis. I would suggest you to take liquid diet , do warm saline gargles and apply warm compresses on neck . Consult ENT specialist for proper examination . Doctor will examine with laryngoscope along with throat swab test and viral culture test . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics like amoxicillin or penicillin along with anti inflammatory or recommend tonsillectomy in severe case or in breathing difficulties . Doctor may also refer you to gastroenterologist for food pipe problem . For now eat soft , eat 1-2 bananas and stay calm .
