What Causes Slow Pulse Rate After Taking Thyroid Medications?
My husband had a stroke in November, he is on several different bp meds. He also takes thyroid medication. It was recently increased from 100mcg to 112 mcg on Feb. 11. His pulse normally runs anywhere from 65 to 75, recently it has been being around 54 or 56. Is this normal? Could his thyroid medication be causing this? He has also been feeling very tired and nauseated and he says he just doesn t feel right . Any idea what could be going on?
Hi welcome to HCM. I understand your query and concern. The low heart rate in your husband's case can be due to insufficient thyroid hormone support .This state can cause low heart rate.Even in cases of post stroke its important that such changes are prevented by periodical evaluation through 2 dimensional echocardiography and baseline ecg.Electrophysiological study of the heart will help to document the exact changes.Increasing the thyroid medications dosage will help to overcome such undesirable effects.Cardiovascular manifestations in presence of thyroid disease are common are amicable to therapy with thyroid medications.Consult an expert endocrinologist for further help.Post your further queries if any. Thank you.
