What Causes Sleepwalking In Children?

my son is 10 years old and has suddenly started sleepwalking. There has not been any change in his attitude or behavior to coincide with the sleepwalking. He has regular bed routines and has never been prone to waking at night. Can you give me any ideas?

Dear
Welcome to HCM
We understand your concerns

I went through your details. Sleepwalking, formally known as somnambulism, is a behavior disorder that originates during deep sleep and results in walking or performing other complex behaviors while asleep. It is much more common in children than adults and is more likely to occur if a person is sleep deprived.

Occasional episodes of sleepwalking aren't usually a cause for concern. You can simply mention the sleepwalking at a routine physical or well-child exam. Many factors can contribute to sleepwalking, including:

Sleep deprivation
Fatigue
Stress
Depression
Anxiety, such as separation anxiety in children
Fever
Sleep schedule disruptions etc

Treatment for occasional sleepwalking usually isn't necessary. In children who sleepwalk, it typically goes away by the teen years. The treatment is depending on the causes. Your doctor will take the necessary steps. Don't worry.
