What Causes Sleepiness During The Supper Time?

I am a 61 yo female with hypertension (controlled with Vasotec), chronic pain syndrome due to an auto accident that resulted in an unstable spine which resulted in the placement of bars and bolts in my back for stabilization. I take oxycodone both short acting and long acting but normally I do not have sleepiness as a side affect. The only time I fall asleep is when I am eating supper between 5pm and 6pm. I cannot get through this meal without falling asleep.

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Day long tiredness with adequate calorie intake could have caused sleep immediately after eating supper.
2. You need get a mild nap during afternoon to recharge yourself. This will give the necessary rest to get through supper for your night nap.
3. None of chronic pain syndrome, hypertension, or unstable spine is responsible. Also as you have suggested, it is not due to oxycodone.
4. You need to get your sleep at night regularly for 8-9 hours and a afternoon nap of around maximum of 1 hour. Otherwise, you are well. Continue with medications as advised and management of sleep should help you.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
