What Causes Skin Peeling At The Bottom Of Feet Post Recovery From Gout?

The skin on the bottom of my feet is totally peeling. Seems to be all over the bottom, the heel and the sides of my feet. About 10 days ago I finished steroids for gout in my hands. Could this be related? It isn t itchy nor does it hurt. I m an 81 year old male.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi! Welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, you need to get it reviewed by a dermatologist to rule out psoriasis as it can be related to gout or increased uric acid levels. If it's not extensive peeling it may wait and may resolve on its own.

Occasionally uric acid accumulation in soft tissue may cause tophi or crystal in skin or joints. Keep using anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen alongwith uric acid lowering drugs. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Regards
