What Causes Shortness Of Breath While Suffering From A Heart Disease?

My PCP prescribed 2 20 mg tabs daily for five days for breathing problems. Shortness of breath. It worked! Now what do I do? I m a 78 yo male, with many maladies, including, but not limited to: Parkinson s, Heart disease, Osteo-arthritis, detached retinas, blood clots et al. I m confined to a wheelchair. I recently had a chemical stress test that concluded that I showed a narrowing of an artery going to my heart that disappeared when I transferred to my chair. I try to excercise 3 ts./ wk.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Shortness of breath can happen due to many causes related to the heart or the lungs or the medications in some cases. Treatment also depends on the cause of the shortness of breath. It is not safe for us to guess the medication that the doctor has given you as you have not given us the name.

Some medications can be taken only for a few days and some can be taken long term. On the other hand if the symptoms persist the doctor might need to know and this is extra information that helps the diagnosis and further treatment.
It is safer though that if the medication helped and while you stopped it, the symptoms might have started again, you should let your doctor know if you should continue to use this medication or if there is any other checks he needs to do to make sure all is well or any other medication is indicated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
