I'm a typical high school girl and I have PE as one of my courses. On Wednesday, we have a mile run. Usually, I have a hard time breathing after the run and have a need for water. This week however I ran harder than usual, and in the end my heart was pumping much faster and I ran short of breath. As I result I became weak almost unconscious. After drinking some water I had to lie down for a while till I caught my senses again. This usually happens when I run faster than normal.
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, you might be having asthma. You are having breathlessness on exertion (running). And at your age (14 years), asthma can cause similar symptoms. So better to consult pulmonologist and get done clinical examination of respiratory system and PFT (Pulmonary Function Test). PFT will not only diagnose asthma but it will also tell you about severity of the disease and treatment is based on severity only. You may need inhaled bronchodilators (formoterol or salmeterol) and inhaled corticosteroid (ICS) (budesonide or fluticasone). Don't worry, you will be alright with all these. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wish you good health. Thanks.
