What Causes Sharp Rise And Fall In Blood Sugar Level?

My 84 yr old father takes glyburide 5 mg twice a day and metformin 500mg twice a day and his blood sugar is low in the am, around 90 to 100. Dr. took him off metformin and then had him only take 1 glyburide a day but sugar was to high so put him back on the 2 pills twice a day and now he is low again. Any advice

hello
-blood sugars in the range of 90-100 doesn't warrant change of drugs. if blood sugar goes below normal then treatment modification should be attempted.
-in the presence of rapidly changing blood sugar levels- it is advisable to go for metformin twice daily and then monitor the blood sugar. if normal continue it.
-if blood sugars are high then a long acting medicine like glimepiride can be given starting at a low dose.
-but one thing to remember is that -in elderly persons, very strict control is not mandatory, because high blood sugar is not immediately lifethreatening , while low blood sugar is more dangerous
