General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

To get diagnosed with Ulcerative colitis your husband will go through certain investigations like Stool/blood tests, colonoscopy/sigmoidoscopy, X-ray & MRI if needed.

The treatment depends upon the severity of the condition, it can either be treated by medications or surgery. He can take pain relievers like acetaminophen (Tylenol) & antibiotics. Antidiarrheals if required for relieve.

All medications like corticosteroids, 5- aminosalisalicylates(sulfasalazine), Cyclosporine, Azathioprine should be taken under consultation & close monitor of the treating doctor.

In the meantime limit dairy products & avoid junk food, give him small meals multiple times a day, take adequate rest & plenty of water.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
