What Causes Severe Pain On The Salivary Gland?

Hello, I am a 41 year old male, 172cm, 92kg, and recently diagnosed with tablet controlled diabetes. 12 months ago I started having severe pain in the parotid and submandibular saliva glands on both sides of my face. It is close to impossible to eat or drink absolutely anything due to severe pain. All blood and imaging tests revealed was enlarged saliva glands, but even after a biopsy on a small gland in my lower lip, and the excision of the left submandibular gland, nothing was showing up on the pathology. 2 Professors of Rheumatology have ruled out sarcoid and cancer. ENT specialist is also stumped, as are the doctors at the Diabetes Institute. I have been off work since February and as you can no doubt appreciate, it is getting extremely frustrating that no answers have been forthcoming. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your query, i have gone through your query. The salivary gland enlargement can occur in diabetes mellitus. but the pain in the salivary gland could be because of the stone or any obstruction in the salivary gland duct. it can be sjogren's syndrome also. get an ultrasound and MRI done for the glands. get ANA test done to rule out autoimmune diseases.. i hope my answer will help you. take care.
