What Causes Severe Pain Below Ribs And Painful Urination?
40 year old male severe pain on left side & back below ribs; spreads to lower abdomen & groin area in waves that fluctuate in intensity; has painful urination with brownish foul smelling urine; has persistent urge to urinate & also has nausea & vomiting
Hi, Your symptoms are suggestive of either an infection or blockage of left kidney. Did you have any fever? The block can be due to a stone in the tube connecting your kidney to bladder (ureter). You need to urgently check urine microscopy to look for infection and ultrasound of kidneys to look for obstruction. In addition, blood counts, serum creatinine (to assess kidney function) and urine culture need to be done. Infection can be controlled with suitable antibiotics. If there is a block in kidney, it needs to be tackled by a Urologist in an urgent manner. I am ready to answer any further clarification you may need. Wish you a speedy recovery, Dr. Raguram.
