Hi,
Welcome to Healthcaremagic.com.

I had gone through your question I can understand your concern about your husband.

As per your history signs and symptoms it seems to me your husband is suffering with reflux esophagitis. It is a common problem and not severe one to be afraid of.

He needs to make certain life style changes like;

Avoid late night drinking, smoking and meals.
Elevate head side of your bed 4to5 inches while sleeping.
Take pantoprazole 40 mg once daily before breakfast empty stomach.
Avoid oily, spicy and junk foods.

Heart burn is not serious condition, you need to visit a general physician for further evaluation too.

Hope my answer will help you and you can visit us again if you feel any further assistance is needed.

Regards
