What Causes Right Sided Numbness In The Face, Arms And Fingers?

when I stand from sitting position I have numbness on the right side of face , lips and right arm, hand and fingers. Symptoms have occurred for the past 4-5 days most every time I stand. usually lasts a few minutes (5-10) and goes away until I stand up again. I just need to know if this is stroke symptoms or nothing to be concerned about. Had corpectomy on C-5 (3 years ago) spinal cord still flattened in MRI last year. BP during spell 108/76 pulse 102 -------- 2 min later 131/75 pulse 97 --- 5 min later 113/84 pulse 103 I had a mini-stroke last Oct., slurred speech, weakness in left arm and left leg; confirmed by MRI. Disabled - current meds -- lortab 10 (2-3 daily) mobic (1 daily) asprin (1-350mg daily) plavix (1-daily)

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Numbness on the right side of face, lips and right arm on standing only indicates that you have postural hypotension. This means the blood pressure drops on standing for some times hence the blood supply to the affected part is reduced giving you classical symptoms. You already have a history of mini stroke, disability and noted the MRI report. I think you need a full cardiac and vascular evaluation by MRA that is angiography so that an appropriate cause can be found and treated accordingly. Continue Lortab and Mobic but I think Aspirin needs to be taken in low dosage; please discuss with your Doctor to get an anti-platelet effect. Continue Plavix. Neurological evaluation by a specialist is needed to rule out any specific reason.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,

Dr. T Chandrakant
