What Causes Right Side Abdominal Pain Below The Rib Cage?
hi, I have had an abdominal pain on my right side just below the rib cage today. It was quite severe and meant that it was painful for me to sit down or bend over in any way. Whilst I was standing upright it was bearable but I couldn t move or walk as quickly as usual. the pain has now eased but lasted from approximately 11am this morning until 6pm. When I pressed my side the pain was worse but when I released the pressure it hurt less. I am normally a fit and healthy woman who is not prone to stomach upsets, eats a healthy diet and has a BMI of 24.5. I am 58 years old. I look forward to hearing from you.
It can be due to cholecystitis (gall bladder) or liver capsule. You need to have liver function tests alongwith serum amylase and serum lipase to rule out pancreas issue. Later on if any derangement is found or pain doesn't settle, and ultrasound may be needed to look for gall bladder Stones, liver parenchymal disease or pancreatitis. Meanwhile you can use antacids alongwith anti spasmodic drugs like drotaverine after discussing with your GP. Hoping you a speedy recovery. Regards.
