What Causes Red Itchy Spots On The Leg Below The Knee Which Is Spreading?

hi doctor, my age age is 21. 5 years ago i noticed red spots all over my leg below knee(both legs). Then it started appearing rarely.once it appeared,it used to increase until i lied down on bed in the noght. It was itchy too,but when i touched it,it gave burning sensation. From past 1 year,i noticed that i started getting it everyday in the evening only(kept increasing untill i went to bed,it stops when i sleep in the night).I think it is because of longer time stanging on my legs.It has spread all over my thighs too now. It vanishes in the morning, and some spots would be still visible in brown shade. 2 Moths ago i went to a dermatologist. He just saw it once and immediately on the spot without taking any of the tests he told that it is shamberg s perpura. He gave me 2 lotions-DESONIDE LOTION(Dasowen) and GLYAHA LOTION(ENRICHED WITH VITAMIN E) and told to mix these creams in 1:1 ratio and apply it everyday in the morning. But now the condition has come where if i dont apply the cream i get the red spots after standing even for 15 minutes. After applying the cream appearance of the spots is delayed just for 3 hours maximum. While sitting on the chair for longer(hanging my legs),also cause these. Today(5/02/2014) i again went to him.I told him that the creams are not giving much relief. He has changed the creams to-KOJIVIT and DESONIDE cream. He also gave me a tablet-Antoxid HC, to have in the morning after breakfast. Can you suggest me sir something please, that whether my doctor has diagnosed it correctly or not.It s just i want to get rid of this disease,it has really irritated me.It gives me feeling that i have become a handicap. Can t stand and sit for longer.

Dermatologist 's  Response

Hi,

I can understand your concern for red itchy spots on the leg below the knee which is spreading. There can be multiple possibilities of the red rashes and it requires a close physical examination to diagnose the exact entity of the problem.

In my view correlating with the facts you have provided it appears to be either urticaria (or hives) or allergic dermatitis of the area due to multiple causes.

I suggest you to meet another dermatologist to take second opinion and therefore a proper therapy. In between you should avoid contact of dust to the area properly. If I were your dermatologist then presumptively would have preferred to apply fluticasone with mupirocin cream. You can take an antihistamine such as loratadine for twice a day if itching is present.

Do not try to pinch, pop or squeeze the area as it may cause secondary infection of the area.

All the best
