For the past three days I have been having excessive coughing after midnight which makes my heart beat faster. This happens for 30 minutes then it gets back to normal again.I dont have pressure or sugar problems. I am taking Jadelle as contraception at the moment. Why is that?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of recurring cough and racing heart at night which seems to be due to allergic cough. Need not to worry.

I would suggest you to :-

- Avoid exposure to allergen which is a definitive treatment.

- Avoid eating spicy, sharp and heavy food specially at night.

- Eat at least one hour before going to bed.

- Prednisolone is steroid and suppress allergic reaction and should be used for short duration.

- Take antacids like gelusil .

Consult pulmonologist once and get complete examination done and start treatment as per that. Doctor may also refer you to ENT specialist for throat infection or cardiologist for heart problem .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
Dr. Harry Maheshwari
