Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have had a reoccuring abcess tooth for three years now and I can't get insurance I've tried every time it accesses I go to the er and get antibiotics and it goes away for a minute but it comes right back worse each time and the antibiotics don't seem to work as well could I die if I don't get the tooth pulled
As per your complain recurring abscess in the tooth can be due to infection and as you take antibiotics the infection becomes a bit low leading to reduction in the amount of pus and abscess seems to be resolved but actually it is not resolved as the source of infection is still present and as the bacterial count increases the infection exaggerates..
So only antibiotics can not give you permanent relief and you need to get the tooth treated, in case if the tooth is not extensively damaged Root Canal Treatment can be done to clear off the infection and even tooth is saved..
In case it is not possible extraction has to be done.
Although a tooth infection commonly doesn't lead to death but in case it is not treated it can lead to cellulitis and space infections and can have fatal outcomes..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora..
