What Causes Radiating Pain In Third Finger Of Left Hand, Arm And Elbow?

Thank you for taking my question Doctor Rynne, When I wake in the morning the third finger of my left hand catches when I flex my fingers. I have a sharp pain in the proximal and middle phalanx. This pain radiates up my arm to my elbow. I have not been diagnosed with arthritis. Does this sound like a common symptom of arthritis?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

It is possible that it may be related to arthritis, there are a number of different types of arthritis eg osteoarthritis, rheumatoid, lupus etc

Dupuytren's contracture is a another cause of the finger 'catching' or restricted movement. In this condition there is fibrous tissue connection (scar tissue) between the palm and the fingers which then affects movement..

To determine the exact cause however, you would need to be seen and assessed by a doctor.
This would likely include imaging

I hope this helps
