What Causes Pulsatile Tinnitus?

my mother, age 53, height 1.5m, weight 80kg, has hypertension and an obese. she always complains of hearing something pulsatile in her ear.for about 1years ago till now. (tinnitus pulsatile) it is very annoying.., many ent doctors try to help her, they said it is because of her high blood pressure..but at the time her blood pressure is normal, she still can hear the pulse thingy in her ear. one of the doctor suggest her to use one of device looks like laser, to reduce the tinnitus.she has to use it about 20minutes everyday for 10weeks. the doctor also said my mother s ears are all in good condition. can you explain the cause of the pulsatile tinnitus..is it relate to acoustic neuroma? or other disease? and how effective is the device that the doctor has suggested..

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Causes of pulsatile tinnitus may be due to:
1. Essential hypertension
2. Middle ear tumors
3. Carotid artery aneurysms
4. Raised intracranial pressure
5. Middle ear infection

many more like Meniere's disease etc. Get it done audiometry and tympanogram. Use anti hypertensive to control blood pressure. Use tablet. gincobiloba twice a day for five days may useful. If no improvement please consult with your ENT specialist he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
