Hi my 13 year old son has experienced sharp pricking pain that lasted couple of seconds only (but was so strong it truly scared him) in the left side of the chest area. It has happened 3 times in 1 week. He's also complaining of pricking pain in his left arm and armpit (not as strong as the chest pricking pain) and is convinced that he's having a trouble breathing.. he's otherwise normal 13 year old active kid.
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic. I can understand your concern. Left sided chest pain, arm pain with breathing difficulty are suggestive of heart diseases more. At his age of 13 years, heart diseases are uncommon. But some congenital heart diseases can occur at 13 years and can cause similar symptoms. So consult cardiologist and get done 1. Clinical examination of heart 2. Ecg 3. 2d echo. If all these are suggestive of heart disease then he may need cardiac supportive treatment. But if all these are normal then no need to worry for heart diseases. Sometimes stress and anxiety can also cause similar symptoms. Don't worry, he will be alright. First rule out heart diseases. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your son. Thanks.
