What Causes Persistent Vaginal Bleeding?

I have been on the depo-provera for approx 15 years but with several 6 month breaks, I have always had amenorrhea however for the last year have had almost continous bleeding, sometime heavy, sometimes light, could it be my age? I am 32 years old and of normal weight and otherwise good health. I also have had the injection at 11 weeks the past two times.

Given your history of prolonged use of the depo shot with intermittent breaks, there is a possibility of wavering levels of hormones in the body making it difficult to adjust and hence this breakthrough bleeding. Also, observation of the circulatory, hepatic functions and the coagulation profiles are very much important with prolonged use of hormones. Your age should not be a problem.
