What Causes Persistent Upper Abdominal Pain?

Hi, I ve had chronic, but sporadic, abdominal issues including three pretty intense attacks within three bites of fatty foods - these subsided before I wound up in the ER, and I ve avoided those foods since. However, the bloating, fullness and belching has definitely become more regular. About two weeks ago, I hurt my back a bit and was taking two Excedrin a day and Melatonin to sleep. That s all better now, but around a week ago the bloating, discomfort and even pain has been very regular. The pain is right in the center of upper abdomen about an inch below the sternum. Sometimes it feels like I need to eat to make it better, but then I get queasy almost immediately. I have a Drs. appointment for 2 weeks but am headed out of town for a week and would like something to give... Zantac isn t helping and I m hardly eating so it s not being brought on by food this time. Any suggestions are appreciated!

It can be a range of deseases that can cause this type of pain. Gastric and duodenal ulcers, deseases of the Pancreas, if you are old it can be even superior mesenteric artery stenosis etc... What you need to do is to contact a gastroenterologist and do a fibrogastroscopy. Ofen teh diagnoses is done in a single sesion but if its not some gastric ulcer than you need to do an abdominal CT to check for other problems.
