Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom is in the hospital with bowel obstruction caused by scar tissue adhesion because of radiation and cancer surgery last year. She is being drained a lot of green liquid fluid from the body to decompress her abdomen. She hasn t passed out her stool yet. Her resting heart beat this morning is 147. Now it goes down to 127. She is in the hospital the 3rd day and her heart beat rate hasn t improved. She is 83 years old. If her heart rate persists to be that high, will there be a possibility that she will die anytime?
I'm sorry to hear about your mom. At her age, any surgery is high risk, and her high heart rate is a sign of stress on the body, either from infection, dehydration, pain, or stress from the surgery. If she hasn't had a bowel movement yet, it may be normal, or it may be a sign of bowel obstruction.
So, given what you have told me, I would consider your mom's condition to be precarious, but of course the best people to ask are her doctors, who will know her condition better and can help you understand what is going on. I would not be afraid to ask them directly about the chances she will or will not recover from this surgery.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Aaron Branch,
General & Family Physician
