What Causes Palpitations After Reducing Camazol Dosage?

Hi Dr. Andrew, this is Kelly here. I am a hyperthyroid patient , and i have been treated since 6 months ago under my doctor s monitoring. However, lately with my recent blood test results. Doctor has reduced my Camazol medication into 5mg on a daily basis. But i feel that my heart beat is fast? What does it mean? is it insufficient Camazol dosage in the body to surpress the overactive thyroid?

Hello,

The amount of Camisole that you need to control your thyroid disease all depends on your TSH and free T4 levels.

Typically, a higher dose of the medication to treat hyperthyroidism is used at first, and then once the hyperthyroidism is better controlled, the dose can be decreased and titrated according to the TSH and free T4 levels.

If those levels are within normal range, and your heart rate is mostly above 100 (normal range for heart rate is usually 60-100), another cause of your fast heart rate should be investigated.

But if your TSH is low or your free T4 levels were high and your heart rate was high, then your thyroid medication would need to be adjusted.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
