What Causes Pain Near Ribs With Cough?

My six year old daughter keeps complaining of pain in her right side and across the middle, but mostly right under her right rib and she says her hips to, but I think she means just above her hip bones. She's had a cough and it hurts to touch it and to cough..should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

Her symptoms are caused by bronchopneumonia. Chest pain is due to toxins of the virus that has caused this disease.
In these cases I recommend:
1. Bed rest.
2. Taking a lot of liquids.
3. Eating a lot of fruits and vegetables.

A physical examination by her General and Family Physician is necessary for the evaluation of her health condition.
I also recommend a pulmonary X-ray and a complete blood count in order to determine the exact diagnosis.

The results of these tests will help her doctor in determining the treatment.

All the best.
Dr. Behar.
