What Causes Pain In Neck And Head During Sex?

Hi my boyfriend has a slight history of lower back pain and recently has been getting very sharp pains in his neck and the back of his head when we gave sex standing up. It doesn't effect him of we are lying down. The pain gets worse the closer he is to ejaculating. He says he thinks it may be a muscle strain but do you have any ideas?

Dear user,
Thanks for writing to Healthcaremagic.
I got your concern regarding pain during sex.
Sexual activity (intercourse) in certain positions may cause back pain, neck pain or pelvic discomfort. It may last for hours to days. This occurs due to musculoskeletal reasons.
There is increased muscle tone during sexual excitement which may cause involuntary forceful contraction of group of muscles (cramp).Over the counter oral pain killers with muscle relaxants, warm compress at local area, topical pain relievers usually helps for muscle cramps.
Kindly go for positions in which both of you are comfortable. You may search on internet for this.
Wish you good health.
