What Causes Pain In Area Of Adam's Apple After Reducing Thyroid Medication?

Hello. I suffer frim hypothyroidism, having had RIT a few years ago for being hyperthyroid. My thyroid medication was reduced 10 days ago. For the past 7 days, I have had pain at the area of my Adam's apple. Should I worry that the thyroid medication dosage has been redcued too much. Bill

Hi,

I have gone carefully through your concern and understood your query. Reducing the dose of the thyroid hormones (more than necessary) can be associated with symptoms of hypothyroidism:

- Fatigue, weakness, feeling sleepy, constipation

If you do not notice any change from outside (increase of the gland or nodule that has not been before) than there is no need to get worried. Check the TSH level, 6 weeks after changing the dose.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Best wishes,
Dr. Mirjeta
