What Causes Pain Around The Ovary During Menstrual Cycle?

Hi I get pain on/around my left ovary from the day I get my period and it lasts around 2 and a half weeks, been to my own gp, had scan to check for cysts, was told I didn t have any cysts, this has been ongoing for almost a year, other symptoms include constipation, tiredness, and sometimes I can feel movement in my tummy and can literally see tummy moving when I lay down around the area where I get pain, any ideas??

Hello,

I would like to know if you have been checked for the presence of endometriosis. Other possible causes like adhesions following previous surgeries and/or infections also need to be considered. If there is no obvious pathology, pelvic congestion before and during the menstrual period along with increased blood supply to the ovary around ovulation leading to congestion could be the cause. An anti-spasmodic should help relieve the pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam, OBGYN
