What Causes Pain And Numbness In The Shoulder?

I am a male, 29 years old, smoker, not overweight. This is the second time I am experiencing left shoulder/arm pain at night while sleeping, the pain is not extreme but enough to keep me awake, it also comes with numbness feeling but without going numb. During the rest of the day, I do not feel any pain whatsoever in my arm or shoulder.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Pain in arm and shoulder may be radicular pain arising from cervical spine. Pain is quite significant as it is disturbing your sleep. Etiology may be nerve root compression in cervical spine. Diagnosis needs to be confirmed by MRI of the cervical spine. MRI is highly sensitive and specific for diagnosis of spine pathology. Meanwhile, start tablet Pregalin. You need to consult spine specialist with report.

Wishing you good health.
