What Causes Pain And Burning Sensation In Ear With Fever And Chills?

Noticed a lump in front of my ear in the preauricular area. It has a burning sensation, as well. Went to family doctor she stated that is was probably a swollen gland. The burn came and went off and on for the past year. A couple weeks ago I began having earache-like pain and the burning feeling got even worse. Headaches and body aches and low grade fever, as well. I made appointment with ent and family doctor. Family doctor said there was no ear infection and that it could be nerve related and referred me to ent (same one I already called) and prescribed pain meds. The pain meds are terrible and make me feel worse so I stopped taking them. Went to ent today and he said possible parotid lesion and tmj. He prescribed antibiotics and got a cat scan scheduled for next week. Now the pain has intensified. The burning sensation is terrible and my ear hurts deep inside. I have a fever and chills. I even tried the pain meds which don t help. I called the Dr on call and they couldn t help much. Am going to er if not better soon. I am a worrier, which doesn t help. Does anyone have any input? God bless you all.

hi sir ...i feel your worry about that...your case one of the most misdiagnosed cases...as it need rapid investigations to confirm diagnosis.....mostly it is one of two possiblities ....but from your story as it begin ayear ago the most common cause is one of salivary gland (parotid) infront of ear may have stenosis and by time it get worse....the other possibility you get infected ear or nose and lymph node inflammed.......you need to do rapid ultrasound...sometimes we demonstrate needle biopsy to confirm diagnosis.....my advice to you is to try to do rapid ultrasound or ct scan..and refer to your specialist and if diagnosis of gland stenosis confirme you must referred to head and neck surgery........i hope you improve rapid and getout your worry.......follow these simple steps and you will be ok..thank you
