Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
my brother had a stroke 1.5 years ago, he has been on warfarin since. He woke up 2 days ago with sever pain in his shoulder and unable to use his arm. The pain in his arm and shoulder has eased since, but not gone away, however he has unexplained bruising now on this arm, any advise?
Thank oyu for asking! History of stroke and use of warfarin explains the bruises and it is most likely due to bleeding profile derangement , a common side effect of warfarin. A simple vitamin K administration will help. Assessment and keen observation of bleeding profile with PT APTT and INR and Platelet count is advised though. Get to stroke specialist and adjust the warfarin dosages. Take care
