Is It Safe To Use Bengay Arthritis Cream While Having Acitrom?

Hi Doctor. My mother has a mitral valve replcement in 1995, and has severe TR. She is taking Warfarin from last 15 years, and a couple of weeks back it has been replaced by Acitrom. She is also having severe Arthritis pain. How safe it is to use Bengay Arthritis cream for wrist/knee joints while on anti-coagulant medication (Acitrom) - as it contains Methyl Salicylate?

Hi,

No. It is not safe to use Bengay cream alongside Acitrom. There are increased chances of internal bleeding, so you should avoid that. However, to rule out the cause of joint pain you should visit orthopedic specialist.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Fahum Akhter, General & Family Physician
