What Causes Orange Colored Vaginal Discharge?

OK, I have a strange question. I had a light orange color discharge today. I am suppose to Start my period soon but haven t had any period symptoms like I usually. After seeing this color I used a tampon just in case. But it hasn t done it since that one time today. And so far no period either. I called my Dr earlier and didn t really get a answer. I m not cramping, not in any kind of pain, no smell. I feel completely fine. Very confused
