What Causes Numbness In Upper Lip And Teeth?

For 2 days i have had numbness on my upper left side of lip and teeth, much like the feeling from novacain. My left sinus has been running profusely with clear liquid discharge. I had a root canal in this area 2 years ago, and the dental surgeon indicated that the tooth abscess had been draining into that sinus.

Hi Dear,

Understanding your concern.

As per your query you have numbness in upper lip and teeth along with sinusitis which is because of two reasons in your case. First one is inflammation or pressure on maxillary nerve whose branch trigeminal nerve supply in this area and if any abscess or dental infection is there it will put pressure in that area and causes symptoms. Second and major cause is sinus infection.

I would suggest you to visit dentist once and get X-ray of that area done to check infection in that area where root canal therapy was done before and do the procedure again if infection persists. Visit otolaryngeologist once and get sinuses examined properly.

Till then start with antibiotic such as Azithromycin to prevent oral cavity from infections.

Maintain basic hygiene of oral cavity. Do warm saline gargles on daily basis.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain numbness on the upper lip and teeth can occur due to any allergic reaction in the localized area.

It can also be due to abscess formation which can cause pressure on the nerve fibres supplying that area leading to numbness in that area..

It can also be due to any medication if you are taking..

In case of sinus infection if there is infection and pressure formation inside the sinuses it can also lead to a numb feeling in the teeth and the lip.

The treatment can be based on the diagnosis..

I would suggest you to consult an Oral pathologist and get evaluated for the cause of the numbness and treatment will be planned accordingly..

Hope your query is solved..
