What Causes Numbness In The Upper Left Cheek?

Hi, I woke up yesterday morning to feel a numb in my upper left cheek, didn't think much of it until this morning , my cheek is swollen and can barely open my mouth. It feels as I try to put my tongue to the end of my gum and I can feel that's where it is forming as it is now a huge solid bump and feels like a ball of juice in my cheek.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of numbness in the upper left cheek which seems to be due to temporary weakness or paralysis of the muscles in one side of the face and it could be due to trigeminal neuralgia. It could be due to infection of tooth in left quadrant leading to accumulation of pus and formation of abscess.

Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult oral physician/neurologist for proper diagnosis and rule out condition like diabetic neuropathy and trigeminal neuropathy. Doctor may prescribe muscle relaxant or anti inflammatory medications. You should go for IOPA of tooth in swelling area and go for root canal treatment of that particular tooth. Apply cold compresses alternate with warm compresses. You can start physical therapy of facial musculature, massage or light muscle exercise and can take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
