What Causes Numbness In The Toes?

I had an in line fracture of my fifth metatarsal on June 24 no surgery necessary, wore air cast for four weeks able to walk in a regular shoe however I still have numbness in my toes and bruising on the top of my foot. My podiatrist did not give me much information in regards to physical therapy except for doing the alphabet and pulling with my toes on a towel. I have found some basic physical therapy exercises online and have been doing my own massage. Is it normal still have numbness tingling and bruising after all this time? Thank you, Lisa

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my clinical experience, the current presentation suggests there should not be numbness in toes after period of 4 weeks of line fracture.

In our clinic, I recommend supportive therapy of Pregabalin and other medicines and later if required suggest nerve conduction study or else evaluation as MRI to find out possible nerve compression.

Wish this information will help you. Do feel free to ask further doubts.
