What Causes Numbness In The Soft Palate?

I ve noticed the past 2-3 days that the back of my throat and the very back part of my soft palate are numb. It also feels a bit swollen. I don t have a fever, but I was sick the last 2 weeks with a sinus infection and upper respiratory infection. The numbness started a week after getting off antibiotics.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Possible causes for numbness in the soft palate is, Damage to a nerve during a dental procedure. The lingual nerve is responsible for the feeling in the front of the tongue,Allergic reaction.,Canker sore. Medication reaction, Burn,Stroke or TIA,Multiple sclerosis and Anemia etc. Until examination is done it is difficult to say what it is. Avoid cool drinks and freeze water. use decongestant medication under your doctor guidence. Use salt water gargling thrice a day for five days. If symptoms not improved please consult your doctor he will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
