What Causes Numbness In The Big Toe?

About a year ago I noticed an unusual feeling of numbness in my left big toe--as if I had a heavy callus there preventing regular nervous system feedback. It s continued slowly to the bottoms of other toes on left foot and now it s into the right foot, same progression. The balls of the feet also feel like a disconnect between what I should be feeling and what I m not feeling. I have had Raynaud s, especially in the hands for most of my life, but the activity in my feet doesn t feel the same way. I m about to turn 70, am in otherwise good health; vegetarian and physically active. Am curious about this condition. I haven t a primary care physician since mine retired about 10 years ago, but have not needed one, but should see someone about this progressing condition. What type of doctor should I be looking for? Thank you. Laura

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As per your history please follow:

1) Correct iron and B-complex by injectable medications

2) Check your FBS, TSH, Antinuclear antibody, Serum creatine kinase, RF

3) Do liver and kidney function test & CBC

4) Finally do a physical examination by your local doctor in opthalmoscope to ruled out Raynaud

I hope I was able to address your query. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to write to me. Wishing you all the best.

Regards,
Dr. Uday Nath Sahoo

Thanks,
