What Causes Numbness In Hip Followed By Severe Pain?

Hi, For the past year or so my left hip has been acting strange. Every once in awhile it will start to feel numb and it will hurt but the pain subsides in 3 or so. The closest thing I can compare it to is wearing a pair of pants that are too tight for around your waste. I mentioned it to a friend and they had suggested it maybe my pants were to tight. I bought some lose pants and gym shorts and decided to test my friend s theory. Unfortunately that didn t get me anywhere and I finally concluded after two months of wearing lose pants/shorts that it must be something else. I have done stretches, I maintain my health, and I get plenty of exercise. I know for a fact that this pain isn t from pushing my limits while exercising, it isn t caused by my pants/shorts being too tight, and I haven t had any past injures to either of my hips. I m starting to get concerned about my left hip due to how frequent the pain has been accruing this past month. Does anyone know what might be wrong with my hip? It feels kind of numb like something is wrapped to tight around my waist but there isn t. If someone has any idea I will be more than grateful for helpful suggestions. General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There can be various possible causes of numbness hip with severe pain as:
- Nerve compression
- Ligament or muscle spasms
- Fibromyalgia or myositis type issues
- Blood supply issues as avascular necrosis of hip joint
- Early onset arthritis or else immunologic phenomenon

If any of the investigation panel of radiology is available as an x-ray, MRI or else, it would be of great importance to study and co relate on clinical grounds.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
