What Causes Numbness In Fingers Along With Swelling In Feet?

All the fingers of both hands are always numb. This started with problems with the ulnar nerves, a few years ago, then spread to the remaining six fingers. When sleeping, I m awaken by moderate pain in the arms, whereby getting out of bed and rubbing my arms stops the pain and numbness and allows for continued sleep for several hours. Lately both feet have become swollen and, on the inside of both feet, the skin has turned dark red and appears to be spreading. There is minor continuous numbness in the toes but no pain. I m 85 years old, smoke cigaretts and drink 2 liters of beer 24/7, 365 days. Is there a way to reduce the numbness in the fingers and toes without changing my life style ? Thank you . . .

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have numbness in fingers along with swelling in feet . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like peripheral neuropathy , diabetes , vitamin B12 deficiency , low blood sugar and iron level .Organ failure like kidney and liver can also cause such problem. It could also be due to more serious problem like cardiac problem. I would suggest you to consult general practitioner for proper examination . Doctor may order blood test , ECG , and check vitals to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may prescribe supplements like iron or vitamin B 12 . Doctor may refer you to cardiologist for heart problem or neurologist for neuropathy . For now eat healthy and do light exercises daily .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
